Carmen Vella Gauci embarked on her artistic journey more than 25 years ago, honing her skills under the tutelage of accomplished instructors like Matthew Cassar, Winston Hassell, Alfred Briffa, and Anton Calleja. She then branched out and began to experiment independently, discovering and refining her talents. Her diverse portfolio explores a range of subjects, with a particular fondness for architecture, flowers, and the human figure, each piece often imbued with an emotional connection.

Vella Gauci’s preferred medium is the captivating fusion of watercolors and mixed media, which she wields with exceptional skill, imbuing her works with a luminous quality and depth of emotion, adding to their timelessness. Her artistic versatility extends to acrylics as well.

In 2023, Vella Gauci was commissioned to produce a painting of the historic city of Birgu, which was presented to Cardinal Grech. This commission is a testament to her artist’s reputation and recognition within the local and global art community, reflecting both her cultural significance and investment potential.

Since the early 2000s, Vella Gauci has been actively exhibiting her work, with her artworks found in private collections across Malta, Gozo, Australia, America, Italy, Germany, Canada, Prague, and Brussels. Her artistic journey has included four solo exhibitions and numerous collective exhibitions. In addition to her visual art practice, she has also published a collection of poetry entitled “Verses to My Son, In Search of Solace,” further showcasing her creative versatility and enhancing the story/background of her work.

In her own words, “Art is the breath that sustains my soul,” capturing both the emotional connection and practicality she brings to her art.
